"To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world." Chinese proverb
At Thameside, we want our children to grow up as citizens of the world, who appreciate cultural diversity and see learning a foreign language as a powerful tool; a window onto different cultures and a key “to unlock new countries to explore” (Matthew, Year 5).
Here at Thameside, we explore the differences and similarities between Spanish and English, and we discuss the cultural features they reflect.
"When you learn a new language, you can see the world from a different point of view." (Wiktor, Year 6)
"Do you know what a foreign accent is? It's a sign of bravery." Amy Chua
Children are encouraged to be curious and adventurous in their approach to the Spanish language. They develop their language skills through a variety of media, in a multisensory approach that provides an immersive learning experience. Games, songs and role-play allow our students to be active learners who use their knowledge to interact with each other in Spanish from the very first lessons.
Our focus at Thameside is to provide an engaging environment that makes learning fun and effective. We want to light the spark that will inspire our children to pursue the study of foreign languages in the future.
